Introduction:
The population aging is a phenomenon observed in most OECD countries and is not a problem only in Korea and Japan.
Aging is also associated with an increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as well as a problem of national
financial burden due to the decline in the economic activities of the members of society. One of the medical
countermeasure against this is the management of Mibyeong (Japan: Mibyou).
Main subject:
The Korean Mibyeong study was based on the continuing interest and efforts of some Korean medical university
professors. In 2012, the Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) started to work on the Mibyeong project, and
an interdisciplinary research was born. Then, in 2014 with the support of the project to solve the "8 major health
problems at every stage of life" of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Mibyeong research center was
established within the KIOM.
Conclusion:
In Korea, there are cohort studies on symptomatic Mibyeong, development of diagnostic algorithms, genome studies,
and epigenetic studies. We also classify the people who appeal to Mibyeong into pattern identification and constitution,
and suggest ways to manage them according to their subgroups. We think that Mibyeong research in Korea can
contribute to the development of Mibyeong research in Japan. We believe that exchanges in the Mibyeong research
between the two countries are very important nowadays, and that the results can be a shortcut to find the solution of
human health. |
